you are here: church life - fairtrade
Fairtrade
Wimborne is a Fairtrade Town, and St. Michael’s actively supports this organisation, together with other Churches in the Wimborne area.
What is Fairtrade?
Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. Fairtrade requires companies to pay sustainable prices which must never be lower than the market price. By so doing, it addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.
There are now more shops that sell Fairtrade goods. In particular, the Co-op, of which there is one in Colehill, has taken its commitment very seriously - all its own brand coffee and chocolate is Fairtrade produce.
As part of its life and mission, St. Michael’s demonstrates its support for Fairtrade and its concern for justice by:
using only Fairtrade tea and coffee after our Sunday morning
Eucharist and at other church functions both in the Church and the Church Centre |

encouraging members of our congregation to buy Fairtrade goods for their own consumption at home. Fairtrade produce now
includes chocolate, bananas, sugar, fruit, clothing, biscuits, honey, and wine as well as tea and coffee
advertising its commitment to Fairtrade in both the Church and the Church Centre
