Festivals at St Michael's
In addition to the usual weekly pattern of worship, we mark the Christian festivals.
Advent and Christmas
Day before Advent Sunday: Lighting of the Parish Council Christmas tree in the Churchyard during our annual Christmas Market
Advent 2: Christingle service
Advent 3: Carols round the Christmas tree led by young people’s choirs
Advent 4: Traditional service of Nine Lessons and Carols by candle light
The Sunday School prepare the Church Christmas tree through Advent
for the Blessing of the Crib service which is held at 6pm on Christmas
Eve
Christmas Eve: Midnight Communion at 11.30pm and is by candle light
Christmas Day: Holy Communion at 8am and Family Eucharist at 10am
Lent, Holy Week and Easter
Our worship pattern during this season is planned afresh every year, but always includes
Ash Wednesday: Holy Communion with Imposition of Ashes
Maundy Thursday: A Eucharist of the Last Supper
Good Friday: Children prepare the Easter Garden
A Meditation on the last hour on the Cross
Easter Sunday: An open-air Dawn Eucharist followed by breakfast
8am Holy Communion and10am Family Eucharist
At the end of May/ beginning of June, an Art Exhibition is held in the Church building for ten days. On the Sunday during the Art Exhibition, we hold an Arts Festival Eucharist.
